Did you know what west of the M7 we have some of the highest proportion of long commuters of any first world city? We need to create equity. Our aim is to enable more jobs in more places, and to create a transport system that more efficiently links Sydneysiders to work and live within 30 minutes.

The Western Sydney Airport will create lots of jobs, knowledge intensive, smart jobs. The Aerotropolis is the place around the airport, the jobs, housing, schools, hospitals and open spaces – the airport city. We want to attract the sort of world class jobs for the future that we aspire for our kids and grandkids.

We can cool it in a whole range of ways – plant trees (the right sort of trees), cool roofs, use appropriate materials in pavements and roads, provide tree canopy’s with irrigation, recycling wastewater – there’s no one single answer.

We’re planning for a metropolis of three cities. Greater Sydney is growing, people are living longer, people are having babies, and more people are coming to live in Sydney. We need to plan for it. We’re working with our partners right across government, and the wider community to deliver our vision to 2056.

As Greater Sydney grows we need to make sure we are maximising the effective use of shared spaces, and consider ways to open up private spaces for shared public uses. The shared use of community resources could be a game changer for Greater Sydney. What if the community could get better access to local halls and theatres, and use school playing fields and golf courses?
